Mackex Services delivered high-voltage electrical infrastructure works for the new Powerhouse Museum Parramatta — a landmark $915 million cultural facility on the banks of the Parramatta River, constructed by Lendlease and targeting 6-Star Green Star certification. Works provided the museum’s primary HV supply connection from Ausgrid’s network, supporting the building’s all-electric, carbon-neutral design approach.
Works encompassed the design and construction of a new 11kV underground cable connection from Ausgrid’s distribution network to the museum’s dedicated on-site substation infrastructure, supporting the building’s significant electrical load including climate-controlled gallery spaces, public facilities and precinct landscaping. Mackex coordinated the full Level 1 ASP connection process with Ausgrid, including design assessment, network augmentation, and witnessed commissioning.
Delivering HV infrastructure to a landmark cultural facility on an active riverside construction site required careful coordination with Lendlease’s complex programme. Cable routes traversed areas of heritage and environmental sensitivity adjacent to the Parramatta River, requiring environmental management plans and consent conditions compliance. The building’s all-electric design with high peak demand required detailed coordination with Ausgrid to confirm network capacity and connection point design.
