Mackex Services performed high-voltage electrical works for the $600 million M4 Smart Motorway upgrade between Parramatta and Homebush — a 35-kilometre motorway technology upgrade deploying over 1,300 sensors and 100 CCTV cameras across an operational freeway. Working under the Seymour Whyte / Fulton Hogan delivery joint venture, Mackex delivered HV power supply infrastructure and Ausgrid connection works to support the motorway’s expanded technology and control systems.
Works encompassed new HV service connections from Ausgrid’s distribution network to motorway operational technology enclosures and equipment areas along the M4 corridor, including underground cable installation, metering and protection equipment, and ongoing supply coordination with Ausgrid. Mackex managed Level 1 and Level 2 ASP connection works across multiple connection points distributed along the motorway corridor under a programme tightly integrated with the head contractor’s technology installation sequence.
Delivering multiple HV connections along an operational motorway required rigorous traffic management and compliance with NSW Roads’ safety requirements for work on or adjacent to freeways. Each connection point required separate Ausgrid design approvals and inspection coordination, creating a complex approval management programme across the 35-kilometre corridor. Construction activity was constrained to approved work windows with strict start and finish times to maintain traffic flow and road user safety.
