Key challenges and Mackex Services solutions

Inland Rail is the largest infrastructure project in Australia, linking Melbourne and Brisbane via 1700km of rail through regional Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

The Inland Rail Programme will deliver a continuous national freight network between Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland using double stacked containers. The P2N section is one of 13 projects that completes rail network and is primarily an upgrade of the existing rail corridor. The northern end of the project commences 10km to the south of Narromine whilst the southern end is located west of Parkes near where Brolgan Road crosses the railway. A greenfield ‘north to west’ connection line is proposed at the southern end of the proposal site near, providing a link between the existing Broken Hill line and Inland Rail (via the existing Parkes to Narromine line).

The work package consisted of:
Mackex Services was awarded a position on the “ARTC Inland Rail – Essential Energy Works Panel” in 2019 and in this time, we’ve been awarded the following D&C Works Packages:
  • Parkes to Narromine Essential Energy D&C Works (P2N). The P2N is a 107km section of Inland Rail and there were over 40 Essential Energy Assets that required relocation
  • Narrabri to North Star Essential Energy D&C (N2NS). The N2NS is a 184km section of the Inland Rail and there were over 50 Essential Energy Assets relocations to be undertaken.
