Mackex Services performed high-voltage electrical upgrade works at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, one of NSW’s major teaching hospitals, delivering critical HV infrastructure improvements to support the hospital’s expanding facilities and comply with evolving network safety standards under Ausgrid’s distribution network requirements.
Works involved upgrade and replacement of HV switchgear, cable and metering infrastructure within the hospital’s existing electrical infrastructure. Mackex delivered detailed design in compliance with AS 3000 and Ausgrid technical standards, executed works under strict isolation and safe-work procedures in an operational healthcare environment, and coordinated all network outage windows with Ausgrid’s network management centre to minimise impact on hospital operations.
Executing HV upgrade works within an operational major hospital required absolute assurance of supply continuity to critical medical infrastructure including operating theatres, intensive care units and emergency departments. All outage windows required approval from hospital facilities management and emergency backup systems were confirmed operational before any supply isolation. Working in a complex existing HV switchroom environment required detailed as-built investigation and careful isolation management to prevent unplanned supply loss.
