Mackex Services delivered high-voltage underground cable replacement works in the Parramatta CBD for Ausgrid, replacing ageing 11kV PILC cables with modern XLPE cable to restore network capacity and reliability in one of Sydney’s fastest-growing commercial precincts.
The project required installation of new 11kV single-core XLPE cables through existing underground conduit systems and new civil trench routes in a dense urban environment. Works included cable jointing and termination at both ends, decommissioning of old PILC cables, and restoration of road and footpath surfaces to council specification. All works were performed under Ausgrid Level 1 ASP protocols with live-network switching coordination.
Working in the Parramatta CBD required extensive traffic management and lane closures on major arterial roads with high pedestrian activity. The existing conduit network contained numerous services requiring careful potholing and conflict identification before excavation. Jointing of 11kV cables in confined underground chambers required specialist HV jointing crews. All switching operations were coordinated with Ausgrid’s NMC to maintain supply to critical CBD customers.
